Chosen Master Head

This is the font and title that I will be using for my master head. I am very pleased with my choice as it looks rocky and edgey and it relates to the theme rock therefore the audience will recognise what type of magazine it is and then be encoraged to buy it. 

Title decision

Now most of the planning for my magazine is done I need to decide what my magazine will be called. My initial ideas obviously needed to be revolved around a "rock" theme, so I then started brain storming rocky and edgy names and I came up with the below:

Rock Express

Black Velvet

Clash

Crunk

The Wire

I like these names and they do represent the theme of my magazine but I don't think that they sound professional enough to be the name of a music magazine so I decided to make a list of old famous rock stars or rock groups from a long list of names I limited it down to three of my favourite, these were:

Hendrix

Jagger

Zeppelin

Out of all of my suggestions my favourite is "Hendrix". I like it because it relates to my rock theme so the readers will be aware of what kind of magazine it is and thyen be encouraged to buy it, also it sounds like a profesional music magazine that could be sold in the shops today.

Music magazine masthead font research

The type of fonts that I use on my magazine are very important as it represents what kind of magazine it is so when deciding what font to use I will have to think about what message it sends out to the reader and what type of reader it attracts.

 

 

 

I liked the marble pattern that is on the letters as it gives it a interesting, fun and edgy feel but I think that the shaping of the letters are too rounded and don't suit the theme of the magazine. 

 

I found this font very interesting as it is different to the other ones I have looked at. Its scruffy style would suit my magazine and would let the reader know what type of magazine it is, however I think the writing is too thin to be used on the front cover as It isn't eye catching enough.

 

I really like this font because the paint splattered effect on the lettering makes it appear edgy and different, I also like the shaping of the letters because they are thick and as it is in capitals it will be very eye catching and perfect for the front cover of my magazine.

 

I like this font because it is eye catching and its rough edges makes it suit the theme of my magazine, however I think that it is a bit too uniformed and regimented for a music magazine.

 

 

Overall I think that my favourite font is "Kill Em All" as it is visually pleasing, eye catching and it suits the genre of my magazine. Another reason why I like this font is that it reminds me of the KERRANG master head which is also a rock themed magazine.

 

 

Mise-en-scene and Costume research

Before making my magazine I have looked into different scenes and costumes to see which ones I like and which would be suitable for a rock themed magazine.

I am think of setting my photo shoot in a woods as it will make the pictures more interesting and using a dark scary wood as the setting for my photos will suit my rock theme and create a mise-en-scene that instantly lets the reader know what type of magazine this is.

For the costumes that my models will be wearing in the photo shoot I have decided to use lots of black clothing with rips and tears, hopefully this will create the "laid back" "cool" feel that my magazine needs to have if it is going to be seen as a rock magazine by the public.

 

From my research I have found that my models will need to have very dark dramatic make-up especially around the eye areas. I will practice doing the hair and make-up on my models as their appearance is the most important factor that will let the audience know what type of magazine it is. 

Music magazine mood board

This is a mood board for my music magazine I have used images that I like and that I hope will give me inspiration for my magazine. As my magazine is going to rock themed I have predominately used a black and white theme.

From looking at these photos I have found that my images will feature lots of studded accessorises, black ripped clothing, long messy hair and tattoos. I will try to recreate these themes in my images so that I can capture the same rocky theme in my own magazine.
